Description générale

The kit is comprised of a combination of biological agents that reliably and completely eliminate mycoplasma contamination. The initial treatment of this eradication procedure is adequate for mycoplasma elimination in most applications. The second step suppresses and inactivates any remaining mycoplasma using a follow-up antibiotic treatment.

Application

The LookOut® Mycoplasma Elimination Kit has been developed to quickly and efficiently eliminate mycoplasma contamination from cell cultures.

Caractéristiques et avantages

  • Minimal cytotoxic properties of the reagents
  • Highly effective
  • Retention of normal cell characteristics

Adéquation

The LookOut® Mycoplasma Elimination Kit is suitable for the elimination of Mollicutes and related organisms (Mycoplasma, Acholeplasma, Spiroplasma, and Entomoplasma) in cell and virus cultures. It is not effective for treating mycoplasma contamination in Chlamydia cultures.

Mycoplasma contamination of cell cultures is a serious issue impacting cell model validity. PCR testing for mycoplasma is an inexpensive, sensitive, and specific method for detecting contamination.

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. How does the mechanism of action (MOA) of Product No. MP0030, LookOut® Mycoplasma Elimination Kit, differ from that of BM cyclin?

    1 answer
    1. The key distinction lies in Product No. MP0030, LookOut® Mycoplasma Elimination Kit, which actively eradicates mycoplasma by disrupting the membrane. As a lipopeptide, it identifies cholesterol-rich regions in the membrane (as the concentration of cholesterol in mycoplasma membranes is higher than in eukaryotic cells), creating a pore through which the surrounding medium flows into the mycoplasma, ultimately causing it to burst. In contrast, standard antibiotics simply inhibit metabolic pathways, necessitating the rinsing out of mycoplasma through a medium change. If the process is halted prematurely, any remaining mycoplasma can regrow.

      Helpful?

  2. What antibiotics are included in MP0030, the LookOut® Mycoplasma Elimination Kit? Are fluoroquinolones, macrolides, or tetracyclines part of the kit?

    1 answer
    1. The MP0030 product contains two mycoplasma-active antibiotics, with one of them being a fluoroquinolone.
