Descrição geral

The phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) is a zwitterionic phospholipid. Its headgroup is provided with a phosphate, that is negatively charged and a free amine, that is positively charged.[1] PE is one of the widely distributed glycerophospholipid in eukaryotic cells.[2]

Aplicação

Egg NBD PE is suitable to use as an additive in dimethylformamide (DMF) to compare the effects of nystatin on the diffusion of NBD-Nys and NBD-PE.[3] It has also been used to monitor lipid extraction from liposomes for lipid transfer assay.[4]

Ações bioquímicas/fisiológicas

Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) helps to activate factor (F)X and PT, thereby stimulating thrombosis. It serves as an anticoagulant.[5] PE is essential for the surface expression of γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptors (GABAARs) in cultured neurons.[6]
