General description

The enzyme nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) is involved in the production of nitric oxide.
Spermidine, a natural biomolecule, is known for its wide-ranging health benefits, including anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidant properties, and improvements in respiratory function. It carries a positive charge at physiological pH, allowing it to interact with oppositely charged DNA and RNA. Dietary intake of spermidine is associated with a reduced risk of neurodegeneration, metabolic diseases, heart ailments, and cancer. Spermidine-induced autophagy has been shown to slow the rate of cognitive decline by clearing amyloid-beta plaques in the brain. Spermidine supplementation improves mitochondrial metabolism and translational activity. Moreover, spermidine exhibits cell-autonomous effects on cancer cells and influences their communication with immune effectors, leading to the acceleration of tumor-associated antigen identification and cancer cell death. Spermidine-mediated autophagy inhibits the activation of apoptosis in cancer cells and is linked to tissue development and cell differentiation. This natural compound is additionally recognized for its neuroprotective, and anti-aging properties and is naturally found in semen, as well as in various plant sources.

Application

Spermidine has been used:
  • in the preparation of 5x transcription buffer
  • in the treatment of double-stranded RNA along with other reagents to increase the uptake of dsRNA by nematodes
  • as a standard in the analytical study of rat brain polyamines (185)

  1. I purchased S2626 5g spermidine, and it came in liquid form. My question is: given this solution, how do I prepare a 1 M stock? I want to know the molarity of this liquid spermidine and the storage condition of this purchased product.

    1. Based on a density of 0.925 g/mL and a molecular weight of 145.25 g/mol, this neat liquid has an effective molarity of 6.4 M. A 1 M stock is prepared by diluting the 6.4 M stock using the relation C1V1 = C2V2. For example, dilute 156 µL of spermidine to 1 mL with water to obtain a 1 M solution.

  2. We have purchased S2626 spermidine 5 g. It does not say anywhere what molar concentration or if it is actually dissolved in water. Could you please inform me about that. I received 5 g i aprox 4 ml, and as I can read, the solubility is 50 mg /ml. ???

    1. This product is supplied as a neat or pure liquid with a density of 0.925 g/mL and a molecular weight of 145.25 g/mol. The minimum purity is 99%, thus the molarity will vary slightly from lot to lot. The molarity can range from 6.3 M ( 99%) to 6.4 M (100%). The lot-specific purity is reported on the Certificate of Analysis.
