Beschreibung

Allgemeine Beschreibung

Polyprenols or poly-isoprene-ols are primary monohydric alcohols containing 5 to 25 isoprene units in its carbon skeleton, with a hydroxyl group placed at the end.[1][2] They are found in limited quantities in several plant tissues.[3] Dolichol is an α-saturated polyisoprenoid alcohol with 13-21 isoprene units.[4] Dolichol found in yeast and fungi, facilitate the synthesis of mannoproteins.[5]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Polyprenols can be predominantly used as a natural bioregulators.[3] Dolichol concentration in animal tissues increases with age. Therefore, it can be used as a potential biomarker of aging. Increased serum dolichol levels leads to the development of chronic cholestatic liver diseases.[6]
