Sodium hexadecyl sulphate (SHS), a long chain sodium alkyl sulfate,[1] is a natural anionic surfactant.[2] Electrical conductivities of the aqueous solutions of SHS have been measured.[1] Mixtures of SHS and hexadecanol (HD) have been employed for the emulsion polymerization of styrene.[3] The presence of impurities in SHS can be evaluated by studying the impact of the chain length and pH of SHS on the electrokinetic properties of hematite.[4] SHS intercalated in hydrocalumite (a layer double hydroxide) has potential applications as sorbents for non-ionic organic contaminants.[2]
