General description

Maltodextrin is a saccharide polymer that can be classified as a carbohydrate. It can be produced by acid hydrolysis of the starch. The powdered material formed after purification and spray drying can be used in a variety of food and beverage products. It can be used as a good source of energy in food products with a value of 16 kJ/g.

Application

Maltodextrin can be used as a binding additive for 3D printing manufacturing. It can be used as a forming agent in the preparation of soya bean sprout extract.

Features and Benefits

  • High purity grade for sensitive applications due to its consistent quality and minimal impurities.
  • Biocompatible - Safe for use in biomedical and pharmaceutical applications due to its non-toxic nature.
  • Supplied in powder form, for easy handling, storage, and seamless integration into dry formulations or reconstitution in solution.
  • High Dextrose Equivalent (15-20) high solubility in water for formulation requiring quick dissolution

Questions

1–8 of 8 Questions
  1. what is the DE of this maltodextrin?

    1 answer
    1. Assuming "DE" refers to Dextrose Equivalent, that value is listed on the product description page: dextrose equivalent 15.0 - 20.0. The lot-specific Dextrose Equivalent will appear on the Certificate of Analysis for each lot.

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. Please what is purity of this maltodextrin?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the purity is not measured for this material. The dextrose equivalency specification range is 15 - 20%. Please see the link below to review a sample or lot-specific Certificate of Analysis:

  5. What is the approximative molecular weight ?

    1 answer
    1. The molecular weight is not determined for this product. However, an approximate molecular weight for product 419680 Maltodextrin can be determined by incorporating its reported Dextrose Equivalent (DE) range of 15.0 - 20.0, based on the formula:

DE = (Mglucose / Mn) x 100 (where Mglucose is the molecular weight of Glucose (180 g/mol) and Mn is the number average molecular weight of Maltodextrin)...

      Cf. https://ift.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1750-3841.2008.00993.x

      ... by solving for Mn.

      The range of approximate molecular weight would be 900 - 1200 g/mol (18000 / 20 (=900) to 18000 / 15 (=1200)).

      Helpful?

  6. Is there a possibility there is free glucose in this product?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, no Maltodextrin is offered without glucose at this moment.

  7. What is the Department of Transportation shipping information for this product?

    1 answer
    1. Transportation information can be found in Section 14 of the product's (M)SDS.To access the shipping information for this material, use the link on the product detail page for the product.

      Helpful?

  8. How does the Dextrose Equivalent value relate to polymer size?

    1 answer
    1. Dextrose equivalency (DE) is inversely related to the size of the polymer (sugar). For example, a Maltodextrin product with a DE value of 4.0-7.0, such as product 419672, would have a larger molecular size compared to one with a value of 16.5-19.5, like product 419699.
