Biochem/physiol Actions

L-Lysine is believed to prevent osteoporosis of bones, which is a characteristics of vascular calcification. Glutaric aciduria type I and pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy occurs due to lack of L-lysine catabolic pathway. Lysine participates in the regulation of NO (nitric oxide) synthesis. It possesses antiviral activity, therefore it is used in the treatment of Herpes simplex. L-Lysine is associated with a number of biochemical reactions such as acetylation, O-linked glycosylation, ubiquitination and protein methylation. Poly-L-lysine is considered as a biocompatible polymer and serves for the purpose of drug delivery across cell membrane. It is useful as one of the nanosized contrast agents in MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).

Recently, layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly has emerged as a versatile, gentle and, simple method for immobilization of functional molecules in an easily controllable thin film morphology.1,2 In this short review, we introduce recent advances in functional systems fabricated by using the mild, yet adaptable LbL technique.

Humankind has utilized protein materials throughout its existence, starting with the use of materials such as wool and silk for warmth and protection from the elements and continuing with the use of recombinant DNA techniques to synthesize proteins with unique and useful properties.

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. What's the sterile level of this product? Meanwhile, does γ-irradiation damage your γ-irradiated products.

    1 answer
    1. This particular product is non-sterile as it is not gamma irradiated. Poly-L-lysine products are offered that are gamma-irradiated that are quality guaranteed for sterility and verified to perform as a coating factor for cell attachment. The effects of gamma irradiation on polymers in great detail are discussed in the citation below. Chain scission and chain crosslinking can occur after being gamma irradiated.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. Hello, can you confirm the chemical nature of the termini of this polymer? Is it -NH2 and -COOH? or -NCH3 and -COCH3?

    1 answer
    1. The carboxyl end of this material has a free -COOH and the amino end has a free -NH2.
