General description

Pravastatin sodium is an orally effective hypocholesterolaemic agent which is structurally similar to lovastatin and compactin.[1]

Application

Pravastatin sodium salt hydrate has been used in the enzymatic method to measure mevalonic acid in serum.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Competitive, water-soluble 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor. Inhibits cholesterol synthesis in vivo (Ki ~1 nM).
Pravastatin sodium is a competitive, water-soluble 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor.[1]
