丙酮酸氧化酶 (PoxB) 可将丙酮酸直接转化为乙酸盐和 CO2。它已被用于研究丙酮酸的代谢。这种酶可用于研究各种细菌的有氧代谢,例如植物乳杆菌和肺炎链球菌。在临床分析中,丙酮酸氧化酶可用于酶促测定丙酮酸、GOT、GPT。

丙酮酸氧化酶由四个具有相同分子量的亚基组成。 PoxB 可与某些醛反应,其中的磷酸盐可以被砷酸盐代替。氧气及几种人工化合物都可充当电子受体。丙酮酸氧化酶可由磷脂以及单体和胶束两亲物活化。
