Lanolin is a complex waxy substance composed of varying quantities of long-chain waxy esters and lanolin alcohols, acids and polycarbons. Lanolin is used in a wide variety of creams, ointments and emollients. Lanolin is often studied to determine it allergenic properties.

Lanolin is used in a wide variety of hydrophobic barrier creams,[4] ointments and emollients.[5] It may also be used as a component of lubricants, rust-preventative coatings, shoe polish and other commercial products.[5] lanolin is often studied to determine its allergenic properties.
