General description

Chemical structure: macrolide

Application

Tylosin is a mcrolide antibiotic commonly used in veterinary medicine. It has been used to study protein synthesis at the 50S ribosome, implant site abscess prevention in cattle, disposition kinetics and Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma meleagridis infections. It is recommended for use in cell culture applications at 8 mg/L.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mode of Action: Tylosin Tartrate inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S (L27 protein) ribosome.

Antimicrobial Spectrum: This product acts against gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasma.

Components

This product is a mixture of tylosin A, B, C, and D tartrates.

Caution

Stock solutions should be filter sterilized and stored at 2-8°C. These solutions are stable at 37°C for 3 days.

Other Notes

Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Keep in a dry place.

Aminoglycoside antibiotics require proton motive force (PMF) for bacterial internalization. In non-respiring populations, PMF drops below the level required for drug influx, limiting the utility of aminoglycosides against strict and facultative anaerobes.
