General description

Florisil, adsorbent for the separation of lipids, is a commercially-prepared magnesia silica gel. It has a coarse mesh size which helps in rapid flow rate. Florisil is effective in promoting [1,3]-sigmatropic shift of myceophenolic acid related allyl phenyl ethers. Florisil cartridges are used in atmospheric sampling to assess possible interference from air contaminants.[1]

Application

Florisil was used:
  • as column packing material in column chromatography[2]
  • as an adsorbent in gas chromatography with electron capture detector (GC/ECD), capillary column chromatography, adsorption column chromatography.[3]
  • in clean-up procedures in gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry[3] and GC-FID[4]

Legal Information

Florisil is a registered trademark of U.S. Silica Company

This study investigated the interactive effects of bioaugmentation, biostimulation, and the rhizosphere during remediation of Aroclor 1242-contaminated soil. Treatments were repeatedly augmented with polychlorinated bipheny (PCB)-degrading bacteria, inducers (carvone and salicylic acid), surfactant (sorbitan trioleate), minimal salts medium in a
