General description

Propidium Iodide: {3,8-diamino-5-[3-(diethylmethylammonio)propyl]-6-phenylphenanthridinium diodide}. Antifade Solution: p-Phenylenediamine and glycerol in PBS solution. 2.5μg/mL Propidium Iodide (PI) suspended in Antifade.

Application

Propidium Iodide is a nuclear fluorescent stain used for counterstaining paraffin-embedded, formalin-fixed tissue, to discriminate between live vs. dead cells in flow cytometry, and staining metaphase chromosomes or interphase nuclei that have been hybridized with probes detected with Fluorescein, or equivalent fluors. Antifade prevents the permanent loss of fluorescence or fluorescent signal quenching due to photobleaching and prolonged exposure to high intensity light sources.

Materials Provided

Each vial contains 1 ml of Propidium Iodide/Antifade Solution.

Warnings and Precautions

Propidium Iodide is a potential carcinogen. Antifade is a potential toxin and irritant. Use extreme caution. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and mucous membranes. Wear gloves and a lab coat when handling. Follow your institution′s guidelines for hazardous waste disposal. Keep tightly capped and limit exposure to light.
