General description

Product Source: cDNA obtained from human leukocyte mRNA expressed in E. coli.
Purified Recombinant Human Interferon Alpha A (Hu-IFN-alphaA; Hu-IFN-alpha2a). Human Gene: IFNA2

Unit Definition

Specific Activity: The units are determined with respect to the international reference standard for human interferon alpha A (Hu-IFN-alphaA) provided by the National Institutes of Health.Unit of activity measured on bovine MDBK cells challenged with vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV).

Physical form

Frozen, in PBS containing 0.1% bovine serum albumin (BSA).

Storage and Stability

After receipt, this product should be kept at -70°C or below for retention of full activity. When thawing, the contents of the tube should be apportioned in separate tubes so that freezing and thawing is kept to a minimum. Dilute only in buffers containing protein such as 0.1% bovine serum albumin (BSA).

Analysis Note

Specific Activity: Determined by assaying inhibition of virus-induced cytopathic effect. In this antiviral assay for interferon, about 1 unit/ml of interferon is the quantity necessary to produce a cytopathic effect of 50%
