General description

Recombinant, mouse γ-interferon (γ-IFN) expressed in E. coli as a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide containing 134 amino acids. Purified by chromatographic methods. IFN-γ is a type II cytokine produced by activated T cells and natural killer cells. It plays a significant role immunoregulation and has been implicated in the induction of the expression of class II histocompatibility molecules in cells that do not normally express them, resulting in autoimmune disease.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Reported as IU/mg on a lot-specific basis using a cytopathic effect inhibition assay.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 0.5X PBS, pH 7.2.

Preparation Note

Following reconstitution, refrigerate (4°C) for short-term storage or aliquot and freeze (-20°C) for long-term storage. Stock solutions are stable for 2-7 days at 4°C or for up to 4 months at -20°C. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles of solutions.
Reconstitute with sterile water to ≥100 µg/ml, containing 0.1% HSA or BSA. Further dilute with aqueous buffers just prior to use.

Questions

  1. How can product 407320-20UG be measured in IU for a dose concentration of 100 IU/mL for an experiment, considering that the label specifies a specific activity of 10 million U/mg P? Is there any interchangeability between these units and the ones I require?

    1 answer
    1. The activity is assessed in "IU" using an inhibition assay, with the result corresponding to a specific activity in international units per milligram (IU/mg).
