Y-box-binding protein 1 (YB-1) belongs to the cold shock domain (CSD) protein family, which is characterized by a highly conserved nucleic acid-binding domain. YB-1′s structure includes the CSD at the N-terminus and a diverse C-terminal domain that contains both alternating basic and acidic regions. This structure facilitates its role in binding to both DNA and RNA, enabling a wide range of functions. YB-1 is a multifunctional protein that plays significant roles in various cellular processes including regulation of transcription, translation of mRNAs, DNA repair, and stress response.
