Application

May be used for the removal of DNA from protein samples or for the purification of DNA binding proteins. It may be used as an alternative to polybrene in retroviral-mediated gene transfer.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Protamine in the form of solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) promoted transfection with plasmid DNA more efficiently and with less cytotoxicity than comparable SLNs composed of Esterquat-1.
Protamine sulfate is a small cationic protein that binds and precipitates DNA. Neutralizes the anticoagulant activity of heparin. Inhibits lipoprotein lipase.

The three main components (called YI, YII and Z) of clupeine a protamine from herring have been isolated and characterized by 13C nuclear magnetic resonance. Resonance belonging to the many different amino acid carbon atoms are observable and assigned. The

Questions

  1. Is it possible to confirm whether product P4505 contains salts (Mg+2, Na+) as impurities or due to its origin?

    1 answer
    1. There is no information regarding the presence of other salts, as the product is currently sourced from an external supplier(s). The supplier's Certificate of Analysis does not mention the testing for salts such as magnesium or calcium.
