Questions

  1. Does the Eosin Y alcoholic solution (HT1101) need to be pH tested regularly?

    1 answer
    1. No, if using a 95% ethanol step before eosin staining, it is important to avoid dragging water into the alcoholic eosin solution. Introducing too much water might make the solution more alkaline, which can affect the staining. pH is not typically measured as it tends to stain the pH electrode. Additionally, because this is a colored solution, using pH papers is not a viable option. If staining is poor, the solution either needs to be replaced, or it is possible to add 0.5 mL of glacial acetic acid per 100 ml of eosin Y solution to improve the staining.
