Allgemeine Beschreibung

Bone metabolism is the dynamic process of ongoing bone deposition and re-absorption, controlled by osteoblasts, osteocytes, and osteoclasts. While osteoblasts and osteocytes (osteoblasts surrounded by matrix) are responsible for bone deposition, osteoclasts are responsible for bone resorption. Both are required to maintain bone structure, as well as an adequate supply of calcium. To maintain metabolic balance these cells rely on complex signaling pathways involving hormones and cytokines to achieve appropriate rates of growth and differentiation. The protein Receptor Activator for Nuclear Factor B Ligand (RANKL) activates osteoclasts and has been implicated in degenerative bone diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteomyelitis.

MILLIPLEX® Human RANKL Single Plex Kit is used for the quantification of RANKL in human serum, plasma and cell / tissue culture supernatant samples. This kit uses a 96-well format, contains a lyophilized standard cocktail, two internal assay quality controls and can measure up to 38 samples in duplicate.

The Luminex® xMAP® platform uses a magnetic bead immunoassay format for ideal speed and sensitivity to quantitate multiple analytes simultaneously, dramatically improving productivity while conserving valuable sample volume.
