Gremlin-1 (GREM1) is part of the secreted, cysteine knot DAN family of bone morphogenetic protein antagonists.[1] It has a molecular weight of 24–26kDa.[2]

생화학적/생리학적 작용

Gremlin-1 (GREM1) has a role in embryogenesis. It also has a role in cell functions during development. GREM1 acts as an antagonist of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP). The protein influences chondrogenesis, outgrowth and apoptosis in limb bud development and has a role in kidney formation. It inhibits the activity of BMP2 and BMP4. GREM1 is involved in angiogenesis, bone formation, bone mass and pulmonary hypertension.[2] Knockout of this gene in mice leads to developmental abnormalities.[1][3]
