セフォタキシムは、細菌の細胞壁でのペプチドグリカン合成の最終的なペプチド転移段階を阻害するペニシリン結合タンパク質（PBP）に結合することにより、細菌の細胞壁合成を阻害します。結果として、細菌は細胞壁自己分解酵素により溶解します。
作用機序:細菌の細胞壁合成を阻害します。
