Enolase 1 (ENO1 or ENOα) is a type of enolase enzyme, which in mammals, has three different isoforms namely, α-, β- and γ-enolase. It is an essential cytoplasmic glycolytic enzyme, and has a molecular weight of 48kDa. An alternatively spliced form resides in the nucleus, which has a molecular weight of 37kDa.[1]

生物化学的／生理学的作用

Enolase 1(α-enolase) is a homodimer composed of 2 α subunits. ENO1 is involved in tumor progression and prognosis of human glioma. Overexpression of ENO1 is associated with progression of glioma while its knockdown leads to suppressed cell growth, migration and invasion progression by inactivating the PI3K/Akt pathway in glioma cells.[1] The lower expression of ENO1 decreases the response to hypoxia and enhances the sensitivity of the cells to radiation therapy. It may act as a drug target for the treatment of breast cancer.
