5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A (HTR2A) encodes for a G-Protein coupled serotonin receptor. HTR2A is predominantly expressed in the brain near to serotoninergic neurons. The gene HTR2A is localized on human chromosome on 13q14.2.
Immunogeno
Synthetic peptide directed towards the N terminal region of human HTR2A
Azioni biochim/fisiol
5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A (HTR2A) binds to neurotransmitters or drugs and activates the G-protein coupled signalling pathway by stimulating phospholipase C signalling cascade and the ultimate release of calcium. and modulates cognitive functions, memory, learning etc. HTR2A is the drug targeting receptor for many of the antipsychotic drugs like serotonergic psychedelics. Genetic polymorphisms as well as epigenetic factors regulate the expression of HTR2A. These variations in the regulation lead to a wide variety of psychotic disorders like schizophrenia, mood disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, suicide, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders, and Alzheimer′s disease.

A recent study demonstrated that treatment of hyperactive mice with psychostimulants and serotonergic agents produced a calming effect that was dependent on serotonergic neurotransmission and was not associated with any changes in extracellular dopamine levels. The complex interaction between the
