Descripción general
El metanol es un disolvente orgánico que puede sintetizarse a partir de gas de síntesis en presencia de los catalizadores CuO/AnO/Al2O3.[1] Es un candidato ideal como fuente de hidrógeno en la tecnología de pila de combustible debido a su elevada proporción H/C, su baja propensión a la generación de hollín, su relativamente baja temperatura de reformado y a que existe en estado líquido a temperatura ambiente.[2][3] En la pila de combustible de alimentación directa de metanol (DMFC), el metanol se oxida con el aire para generar electricidad. Las olefinas (etileno o propileno) formadas a partir del metanol a través del proceso MTO (metanol a olefinas), pueden constituir una alternativa al petróleo y al gas para producir hidrocarburos combustibles.[4]
Aplicación
El metanol (MeOH) se ha utilizado en los estudios de tejidos embrionarios completos mediante inmunofluorescencia.[7]

El metanol puede utilizarse como una fase móvil en la cromatografía de líquidos de fase inversa.[12]

Why on occasion does Product 34860, Methanol, have an unusual odor? Does it affect the product purity or performance?

Industry research has indicated that unusual odors in methanol are a common problem and stem from low - level mercaptans and / or amines found in the natural gas raw materials used in production. Odors from these types of compounds can be noticeable at low part per million (ppm) levels and have not been shown to have any negative impact on product performance at these concentrations.
