應用
间二甲苯可以在二氧化钛负载型铁改性钨磷酸上，通过与苯甲酰氯发生Friedel-Craft酰化反应，合成2,4-二甲基二苯甲酮。在有机-水双相条件下，它也能在有机酸存在下发生氯甲基化反应，形成氯甲基-2,4-二甲基苯与1,3-双（氯甲基）-4,6-二甲基苯的混合物。
