General description

Heart Infusion Broth, containing infusion from the beef heart, is used for the isolation and cultivation of a wide variety of fastidious organisms. The fastidious organisms having challenging nutritional requirements could be cultivated on infusion media. A liquid medium containing an infusion of meat was one of the first media used for the cultivation of bacteria. The heart infusion media requires no further supplements to cultivate fastidious bacteria. The media contains Tryptose and beef heart infusions, which provide nitrogenous compounds, amino acids, and other essential growth nutrients required for the growth pathogenic bacteria. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic equilibrium of the medium. Heart Infusion Broth is also recommended for Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio species and can be used as the base in carbohydrate fermentation tests. This medium is also used for the isolation and enumeration of hemolytic Streptococci in milk.

Application

Heart Infusion Broth is used for general laboratory purposes for the cultivation of fastidious organisms from various test samples.
