Application

2-phenyl-4, 4, 5, 5,-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl 3-oxide (PTIO) has been used as a nitric oxide (NO) scavenger.

Biochem/physiol Actions

2-phenyl-4, 4, 5, 5,-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl 3-oxide (PTIOs) derivatives react with nitric oxide (NO) to yield the corresponding imino nitroxides (PTIs) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
A stable radical scavenger for nitric oxide; affects NO without affecting NO synthase; has significant inhibitory activity against NO biological actions.

Truncated hemoglobins constitute a large family, present in bacteria, in archaea and in eukaryotes. However, a majority of physiological functions of these proteins remains to be elucidated. Identification and characterization of a novel role of truncated hemoglobins in the model

To investigate the mechanisms regulating the pathways of the bystander transmission in vitro, focusing on the radiation-perturbed signalling (via Interleukine 6, IL-6) of the irradiated cells after exposure to low doses of different radiation types. An integrated 'systems radiation biology'

Activated monocytes/macrophages are known to release toxic materials. Identification of these materials is important for developing more effective treatments for inflammatory disorders where self attack occurs. We stimulated human monocytes and THP-1 cells with LPS/IFNγ and measured the toxic effects

Chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) is a concomitant of sleep apnea that produces a slowly developing chemosensory-dependent blood pressure elevation ascribed in part to NMDA receptor-dependent plasticity and reduced nitric oxide (NO) signaling in the carotid body. N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors (NMDARs) are implicated in synaptic plasticity and modulation of glutamatergic excitatory transmission. Effect of NMDAR activation on inhibitory GABAergic transmission remains largely unknown. Here, we report that a brief application of NMDA could induce two distinct actions
