Gene Information

human ... CRP(1401)

General description

C-reactive protein (CRP) is a member of a protein family that serve as soluble pattern recognition molecules. This protein is generated and liberated in the circulation in response to infection and tissue damage. CRP gene is located on human chromosome 1q23.2.
CRP is synthesized by human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. The CRP gene is localized to chromosome 1.

Immunogen

C-reactive protein.
Immunogen Sequence: GI # 30213, sequence 1-224

Application

Anti-C-Reactive Protein antibody produced in chicken is suitable for western blotting at a working dilution of 1:500 and for cell staining at a working dilution of 1:200. It is also suitable for indirect ELISA.

Biochem/physiol Actions

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a homopentamer that belongs to the pentaxin family. CRP binds to phosphorylcholine in a calcium dependent manner and plays a key role in host defense. It is involved in several defense mechanisms such as, agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation. CRP interacts with secreted M-ficolin anchored to monocyte transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor 43 and mediates immune signaling and regulates host defense. It scavenges nuclear waste that is released from cells following apoptosis.
C-reactive protein (CRP) plays a major role the early stages of atherosclerosis and pantothenic acid (PA). It shows an antioxidant effect in inflammatory process. The active monomeric form of C-reactive protein (CRP) is involved in proinflammatory functions.
