Biochem/physiol Actions

Interleukin-1 (IL-1), originally known as Lymphocyte Activating Factor (LA F), activates T cells and lymphocytes, which then proliferate and secrete Interleukin-2 (IL-2). The proliferative activity of human IL-1α is tested in culture using the murine cell line D10S.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 0.25 mg bovine serum albumin.

Analysis Note

The biological activity is measured in a cel proliferation assay using the murine helper T cell line, D10.G4.1.

Systemic inflammation can exacerbate symptoms of many neurological diseases. This effect may be facilitated by glial cells of the central nervous system (CNS) that alter their transcriptional responses and up-regulate cytokine and chemokine expression which can, in turn trigger immune
