General description

Sulforhodamine 101 is a red fluorescent dye. It is water-soluble, amphoteric rhodamine.[1]

Application

Sulforhodamine 101 has been used:
  • to label astrocytes[2]
  • in quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR)[3]
  • to determine the degree of disintegration in tissue sample[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Sulforhodamine 101 can be specifically used as a marker of astroglia in the neocortex.[1] It is commonly used for brain imaging.[5] Studies suggest that sulforhodamine 101 may be used as an epileptogenic agent.[6]
