Descrizione generale

Oxalate or Oxalic Acid is a metabolic breakdown product of the Kreb′s Cycle in eukaryotes, and the glyoxylate cycle in other microorganisms. It can be found in the urine of humans and other mammals. Oxalate concentration can be used as a measure of kidney function where a high level of oxalate is an indicator for kidney stones which are primarily made of the insoluble salt calcium oxalate. Measuring oxalate is more accurate than measuring calcium as a marker for kidney stones because calcium is excreted at high concentrations even in normal urine.

Caratteristiche e vantaggi

Compatible with high-throughput handling systems.

Compatibilità

Suitable for the quantitative determination of oxalate (oxalic acid) in urine, animal and plant tissue samples.

Principio

Simple, direct and high-throughput assays for measuring oxalate concentration find wide applications. This oxalate assay kit uses a single Working Reagent that combines the oxalate oxidase reaction and color reaction in one step. The change in color intensity of the reaction product at 595 nm is directly proportional to oxalate in the sample.

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

      Helpful?

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. What is the purpose of acidifying the samples for longer-term storage?

    1 answer
    1. Acidification of urine samples is necessary for longer-term storage. Oxalate demonstrates greater solubility under acidic conditions. Additionally, ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) in urine samples rapidly degrades into oxalate in non-acidified samples, so acidifying urine should help to prevent this. Given that the Working Reagent used in this assay is acidic, acidifying fresh samples prior to the assay should not be necessary.

      Helpful?

  4. What is the approximate expiration time for these kits?

    1 answer
    1. Expiration dating is batch specific and should be determined from the lot specific Certificate of Analysis. Please review your batch specific Certificate of Analysis by searching your lot number in the DOCUMENTATION section of the Product Detail Page:

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your review with us. We are sorry to hear about your experience with this product and is not what we would expect. The Oxalate Assay Kit does include a three page protocol with calculation and troubleshooting sections, but we would love to get more of your feedback on how to improve the instructions. Variables such as sample age and preservation can impact results. A positive control in included to ensure valid results.
