This material is quite soluble in water. The rate of solubility in water has not been established. However, other sources report rates up to 560 mg/mL. Solutions prepared in water are stable when refrigerated at 2-8 °C for at least 60 days. Avoid storing solutions prepared in isotonic buffers, as the literature indicates a possible increase in the rate of decomposition.

Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. As per the International Standard Preparation (1968), for comparative purposes, each microgram (ug) of colistin base is equivalent to 30 units. As an example, a lot reporting an activity of 22,891 units/mg would have the equivalent of 763 ug of colistin base per mg solid. This product has a minimum activity specification of 19,000 IU/mg, which equates to 633 ug colistin base per mg solid.
