Description générale

Fluorescein dye is the most commonly used fluorescent probe.[1] It is used to stain epithelial defects and analyse the integrity of corneal epithelium. Fluorescein is used in the diagnosis of corneal perforation.[2] Oral or intravenous fluorescein is used in fluorescein angiography to detect diabetic retinopathy and choroidal neovascular membrane.[3]

Application

Fluorescein has been used:
  • in the permeability assay of Caco-2 cells[4][5]
  • to test its suitability to serve as lifetime fluorescence standards[6]
  • as a fluorophore for the fast recovery of fluorescence peaks and fluorophore concentration in the presence of hemoglobin[7]
  • as a fluorescent probe in oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay[8]

Fluorescence lifetime measurement is advantageous over intensity-based measurements. Applications include fluorescence lifetime assays, sensing and FLI.

Fluorescence quenching microscopy visualizes 2D materials like graphene and MoS2 rapidly, inexpensively, and with high fidelity.
