Torsemide ist ein Schleifendiuretikum und ein Inhibitor des Na⁺/K⁺/2Cl^- -Trägersystems.

Torsemide functions in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle and enhances the excretion of sodium, chloride and water from the luminal side of the cells. Furthermore, torsemide can treat oedematous conditions that are associated with diseases such as liver cirrhosis, kidney disorders and chronic congestive heart failure².
