Allgemeine Beschreibung

Von Hippel-Lindau tumor suppressor (VHL) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 3p25. The encoded protein is mainly expressed in adult brain and kidney. It is specifically localized on the cell membrane.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence near the C-terminus of human VHL, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is identical in human VHL isoform 2 and highly conserved (94% sequence identity) in rat VHL.

Anwendung

Anti-VHL antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence.

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

VHL acts as part of an E3 ubiquitin ligase that targets hypoxia-inducible factor α (HIF α) for rapid proteasomal degradation under normoxic conditions. VHL has been also identified as a key regulator of microtubule dynamic stability.
Von Hippel-Lindau tumor suppressor (VHL) acts as a tumor suppressor in some cancers. It might also play a vital role in signal transduction or cell adhesion. Mutation in the gene is associated with the development of sporadic cerebellar hemangioblastoma tumorigenesis and von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease. Interaction of the protein with hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) induces mammalian oxygen sensing.
