Allgemeine Beschreibung

Sauvagine is a polypeptide derived from the frog skin. It belongs to the CRH (corticotropin releasing factor) family. Sauvagine is made of 40 amino acids. It may also be found in the brain of mammals.

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

A peptide related to CRF and urotensin 1 that was first isolated from the skin of the frog Phyllomedusa sauvagei. Potent releaser of ACTH and β-endorphin from the anterior pituitary.
Sauvagine helps to liberate ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) from the pituitary cells of rat. It has several important functions in the cardiovascular, endocrine and renal systems.

Neuroendocrine factors that produce species differences in aggregation behavior ("sociality") are largely unknown, although relevant studies should yield important insights into mechanisms of affiliation and social evolution. We here focused on five species in the avian family Estrildidae that differ

An infant animal isolated from its mother emits vocalizations spanning from the audible to the ultrasonic. These vocalizations are believed to represent distress signals from the pup. However, the neurobiological basis for vocalizations elicited by isolation has not been well

The corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) family of peptides consists of four distinct paralogs found on separate chromosomes in vertebrates. Among invertebrates, the family has been relatively well characterized in the insects where at least 2 or 3 paralogs, a CRF-binding protein

Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) is the major hypothalamic neuropeptide responsible for stimulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPAA), resulting in the synthesis and release of glucocorticoids from the adrenal cortex. In a recent study, we reported the discovery of the CRF1 receptor

Endogenous expression of the corticotropin-releasing factor type 2a receptor [CRF2(a)] but not CRF2(b) and CRF2(c) was observed in higher passage cultures of human Y79 retinoblastoma cells. Functional studies further demonstrated an increase in CRF2(a) mRNA and protein levels with higher
