Allgemeine Beschreibung

C10 Ceramide (d18:1/10:0) is a synthetic ceramide containing sphingosine with decanoic acid. It has a short acyl chain length than sphingosine acyl chain.[1]

Anwendung

C10 Ceramide (d18:1/10:0) or N-decanoyl-D-erythro-sphingosine has been used:
  • as an internal standard in galactocerebrosidase (GALC) assay[2]
  • to study its role on the physical properties of edible organogels and on their ability to induce cell death of various cancer cell lines[3]
  • to study its mixing behavior with other ceramides having the same sphingosine base but varying N-linked acyl chain length[1]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Ceramides modulate stress responses and inflammation. It also controls cell differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis.[4]

Short-chain ceramides, such as N-acetoyl-d-erythro-sphingosine (C2), have a remarkable ability to structure edible oils, such as canola oil, into self-standing organogels without any added saturated or trans fats. These short-chain ceramides are ubiquitously found in foods ranging from eggs to

The organization of lipids within membranes strongly depends on the interaction with other lipid and protein molecules. Sphingolipids comprise a structurally diverse family, the ceramides being some of the simplest members. Although small chemical modifications of ceramide structure, such as

A ceramide commonly found in mammalian cells, C16-ceramide (N-palmitoyl-d-erythro-sphingosine), is capable of forming large, protein-permeable channels in the mitochondrial outer membrane (MOM). However, C16-ceramide is unable to permeabilize the plasma membrane of erythrocytes. This specificity is unexpected considering that ceramide
