Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

Interleukin 15 (IL-15) is a proinflammatory cytokine, expressed in monocytes and macrophages. IL-15 promotes T cell proliferation and adhesion to endothelial cells along with cluster of differentiation (CD44). IL-15 is a chemoattractant of natural killer (NK) cells and promotes its growth. IL-15 is associated with inflammatory disease like rheumatoid arthritis. Hypercholesteremia upregulates the expression of IL-15. Overexpression of IL-15 is implicated in cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis. Polymorphism in IL-15 might cause celiac disease, a chronic autoimmune disease condition. The concentration of IL-15 in follicular fluid is inversely proportional to the size of the follicles and thus, affects the maturity of the oocytes. Polymorphism in IL-15 is associated with hepatocellular carcinoma.
