Application

Glycero-2-phosphate is a component of dexamethasone based hormone cocktail used to induce mesechymal stem cell (MSC) differentiation into osteoblasts.

  5. Is this Glycerol 2-phosphate disodium salt hydrate, Product G9891, a cGMP Product?

Yes. This product is produced under cGMP.

  6. What can I use to solubilize Glycerol 2-phosphate disodium salt hydrate, Product G9891?

This product is soluble in water at a concentration of 50 mg/mL, yielding a clear, colorless solution.

  7. What concentration of Glycerol 2-phosphate disodium salt hydrate, Product G9891, is used in cell culture?

Product No. G9891 is tested in cell culture for toxic effects at 0.1 mg/mL. It is used at 10-20 mM for inhibition of phosphatase activity.

  8. Is there an alternative product if Glycerol 2-phosphate disodium salt hydrate, Product G9891, is on backorder?

Similar products are Product Nos. 50020, G6376 and G1150.

  9. Glycerol 2-phosphate disodium salt hydrate, Product G9891, is "cell culture tested". What does that mean for this product?

Growth studies are carried through two subculture generations at 0.1 mg/mL. Cells are counted, and growth is plotted as a logarithmic function of time in culture. Seeding efficiencies, doubling time, and final cell densities are determined. During the testing period, cultures are examined microscopically for atypical morphology and evidence of cytotoxicity.

  10. What is the solution stability of Glycerol 2-phosphate disodium salt hydrate, Product G9891?

β-Glycerophosphate undergoes very slow hydrolysis at 100°C in 1 M hydrochloric acid. The implication is that solutions would be relatively stable at acidic pH.

The water content can vary from lot to lot.  It is typically in the range of 24-31%.  The information can be found on the lot-specific certificate of analysis.

  12. What is Glycerol 2-phosphate disodium salt hydrate, Product G9891, used for?

β-glycerophosphate is used in cell culture as an inhibitor of alkaline phosphatase. It is routinely used in culture of osteoblast/osteoclast cell lines where the activity of alkaline phosphatase needs to be inhibited (measurement of phosphorylated proteins, etc). A search on PubMed lists over 2500 articles citing "glycerophosphate" and "culture". Most references are for induction of bone lineage cells or for inhibition of phosphatase activity in other types of cell culture.
