GTF2F1 (General transcription factor IIF, polypeptide 1, 74kDa) is a 74kDa, RNA polymerase II-associated protein (RAP). Structurally, the α2β2 heterotetrameric structure consists of two 28kDa (RAP30, TFIIFβ) and two 58kDa (RAP74, TFIIFα) subunits, which play several key roles during transcription such as the formation of the preinitiation complex, promoter opening, initiation, elongation, and recycling.

Ações bioquímicas/fisiológicas

GTF2F1 (General transcription factor IIF, polypeptide 1, 74kDa) functions as an integral component of RNA polymerase II (RNA pol II) holoenzyme. It helps to connect RNA pol II with the preinitiation complex containing TFIIA, TFIIB, and TFIID, through its β subunit. It also stabilizes the preinitiation complex by interacting with the other transcription factors such as TFIIB, TFIID, and TFIIE. It has also been reported that during elongation process, it may facilitate in vitro RNA synthesis by RNA pol II.
