Negative elongation factor complex member B (NELFB) is a breast cancer-1 (BRCA1) binding protein which is overexpressed in upper gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas (UGC).In gastric cancer cell line, NELFB negatively control the activator protein-1 (AP-1) complex at the trefoil factor 1 (TFF1) promoter. NELFB plays an important role in stalling RNA polymerase II after transcription initiation. It binds to the estrogen receptor and recruits the other subunits of the negative elongation factor (NELF) complex to inhibit transcription elongation.
