The gene CROT (peroxisomal carnitine O-octanoyltransferase) is mapped to human chromosome 7q21.1. The protein localizes in the peroxisomes. CROT is also called as COT (carnitine O-octanoyltransferase).

Ações bioquímicas/fisiológicas

CROT (peroxisomal carnitine O-octanoyltransferase) is responsible for β-oxidation of branched-chain fatty acids. It converts peroxisomal 4, 8-dimethylnonanoyl-CoA, to its corresponding carnitine ester. Production of the carnitine ester is important for its transport to the mitochondria for further β-oxidation.
