A calcium-dependent lectin with affinity for furanosides, such as galactofuranosyl in bacterial arabinogalactans. 30kD of apparent molecular weight of Omentin migrate at 40-kD under reducing conditions due to glycosylation. Omentin, a novel visceral fat depot-specific secretory protein, enhance insulin-stimulated glucose transport in subcutaneous as well as omental adipocytes and may therefore be implicated in the pathogenesis of obesity.

Western blot: 1:2,000-1:5,000 using ECL. Reacted with the ~40kDa Omentin His-tagged protein. Suggested blocking and dilution buffer is PBST with 0.05% Tween-20 and 5% skim milk. Suggested incubation time is 1 hour at room temperature.
