Descrição geral

Nafion 117 solution can be used in the formation of nafion membranes with properties like good water uptake (~27%) and ionic conductivity (~1.23 × 10−2 Ω−1 cm−1). Its current density at 600V for the polymer electrolyte fuel cells is ~640 mA cm−2.[1]

Aplicação

Nafion 117 solution can be used for a variety of applications such as:
  • polyelectrolytic membrane for fuel cells[1][2]
  • metal extraction from aqueous solutions[3]
  • for the production of hydrogen by thermochemical water splitting[4]
  • as a reference membrane to evaluate the methanol permeability[5]

    1. At this time, there is no direct substitute for Nafion 117. However, a brief search of the literature reveals that there may be acceptable alternatives. Please see the links below to review these publications:

The exact composition of the Nafion® 117 solution is considered proprietary by the manufacturer.  However, based on the data available, the composition is believed to be similar to the following: approximately 5% Nafion® Perfluorinated Ion-Exchange powder, 15-25% water, 1-5% methanol, with the remainder being a 1:1 mixture of 1-propanol and 2-propanol.
