Application

Phenol has been used:
  • in solid-phase peptide synthesis[1]
  • as a component of DNA extraction buffer[2]
  • as a component of Alexander′s stain solution[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phenol is majorly used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.[4] Phenol pollutes water bodies and inhibits the γ-aminobutyric acid receptor (GABAAR)-coupled chloride ATPase function in the fish brain.[5]

Packaging

Redistilled and packaged under nitrogen in amber bottles.

Herein we present a general protocol for the functionalization of biomolecules with an organotrifluoroborate moiety so that they can be radiolabeled with aqueous (18)F fluoride ((18)F(-)) and used for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Among the β(+)-emitting radionuclides, fluorine-18 ((18)F)

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. Hi, I would like to buy a Water-saturated phenol with pH around 4. Can you send me a link for exactly this product, please? Thanks a lot!

    1 answer
    1. Water-saturated phenol is available in two product options. Product P9346 (Liquified Phenol) and Product 843984 (Phenol, 90% solution in water). Both options are approximately 90 percent phenol and 10 percent water by weight. Water-saturated phenol typically has a pH of approximately 4; however, pH is not one of the Quality Control specifications for either product. Please see the links below to review each of these product options:
      P9346

      842983
      https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/product/mm/843984

Note that this does not refer to a buffer-equilibrated phenol... these products are simply water plus phenol.
