Die LC-CN ist eine häufig verwendete Alternative zu Kieselgel, da sie die Vorteile einer gebundenen Phase bietet (schnelle Equilibrierung, geringe Empfindlichkeit bzgl. des Wassergehalts der mobilen Phase). Sehr oft wird die LC-CN auch mit wässrigen mobilen Phasen als RP-Säule verwendet.
