Dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6) is a cyclic silicone commonly found in personal care products such as cosmetics, hair care, and antiperspirants, providing a smooth feel. It serves as a solvent and carrier in household cleaners, as well as in various industrial applications, including lubricants, sealants, waxes, and coatings, where it functions as a processing aid, release agent, or antifoaming agent due to its volatility and stability. Its properties enable it to impart silky textures, enhance product spread, and deliver thermal stability. Due to its widespread use, D6 can also be found as an environmental contaminant or as an extractable and leachable in pharmaceuticals, food, or personal care products. This certified reference material is appropriate for accurate identification and quantification of D6.
