Urease ist ein zytosolisches Enzym, das die Hydrolyse von Harnstoff zu Ammoniak und Kohlendioxid katalysiert. Nach einer anfänglichen Umwandlung in Carbamat zersetzt sich die Substanz durch Hydrolyse weiter zu Ammoniak und Carbonsäure/Carbonat. Urease ist ein Metalloenzym, das Nickel als Cofaktor enthält. In der Natur kommt Urease in Pflanzen, Pilzen und bestimmten Bakterien vor. Im Jahr 1926 hat James B. Sumner Urease erstmals aus der Jackbohne isoliert.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Aus Canavalia ensiformis gewonnene Urease fungiert als Insektizid durch Freisetzung eines kleinen, durch Proteasen gespaltenen, toxischen Peptids, das sich im Darm von Insekten anlagert. [1]
