Beschreibung

Allgemeine Beschreibung

Cefiderocol has been shown to be effective in preventing the emergence of resistant mutants but is not active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or colistin-resistant bacteria. This versatile compound finds applications in cell biology and biochemical research.

Cefiderocol is a novel injectable siderophore cephalosporin, which was formerly known as S-649266.[1][2] It has a catechol-type siderophore and cephalosporin core and side chains.[1] Cefiderocol has structural similarity with both ceftazidime and cefepime, besides the chlorocatechol group on the end of the C-3 chain.[3]

Anwendung

Cefiderocol has been used:

• study bacterial infections and tracking their uptake in vivo
• the study of the activity of Cefiderocol against gram-negative bacteria[1]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Mode of Action: Cefiderocol binds to specific proteins called penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the bacterial cell wall. This binding affinity inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis and bacterial death.

Antimicrobial Spectrum: Cefiderocol has strong antimicrobial properties, especially against a wide spectrum of Gram-negative pathogens.[1][2] Due to its siderophore core it is also a natural iron-chelator, which adds to its antibacterial activities.[1]
