Biochem/physiol Actions

Tyrosine-protein kinase receptor (TYRO3) is a transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor. It plays a significant role in the brain development during embryogenesis.[1] It plays an important role in apoptotic cell clearance.[2] In hepatocellular carcinoma, it is associated with tumor growth, aggressiveness and liver dysfunction.[3] Mutations in the TYRO3 gene intronic regions are linked with asthma. TYRO3 is also a suppressor of type 2 immunity.[4] As part of the TAM (TYRO3, AXL and MER receptors) family, it is activated by PROS1 (protein S) and GAS6 (growth arrest-specific gene 6). Changes in the expression of TYRO3 are linked with the proliferation and survival of cancer cells. Absence of TYRO3 in mice results in neurological disorders.[5]
